News: Hot 97 Personality Miss Jones Replaced By Big Boy, Peter Rosenberg Talks New Morning Slot

miss-jones-2008-06-30-300x300.jpg

By Cyrus Langhorne

New York radio personality Miss Jones will be leaving popular hip-hop and R&B station Hot 97 as her show "Miss Jones In The Morning" is being replaced by the nationally syndicated program "Big Boy In The Morning."

According to Billboard, the decision was recently announced when Hot 97 Program Director Ebro Darden released a statement supporting the power move to bring in the well-known West Coast radio personality.

"Big Boy has an unmatched reputation for being entertaining--he also has great relationships with artists," Darden wrote. "Putting Big Boy on Hot 97 in New York City helps keep the high standard of radio happening for us."

In addition to national acclaim within hip-hop, Big Boy has won various awards including seven consecutive Radio & Records "Personality of the Year" wins and four Radio Music Awards. Distributed by ABC Networks, his show is syndicated in over 30 markets.

"Big Boy In The Morning" will run from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. Monday through Friday and feature regulars like MTV Entertainment reporter Luscious Liz, Tattoo and others.

Prior to the new show kicking off, Hot 97 radio personalities Cipha Sounds and Peter Rosenberg will also get a daily program together as they're set to debut with Big Boy on July 21st from 5 a.m. to 7 a.m.

SOHH caught up with the comical Rosenberg to get his input on how the promotion to day time radio is going to affect his morning routine.

"I've never been a big waker-upper, but to be honest--I grew up wanting [and] dreaming of doing mornings in New York City, so it's like, I don't think about it," he admitted. "To know the influence you have on people's lives, you know for someone who grew up wanting to do radio and hip-hop, it couldn't get any better."

He also explained his intention for keeping the show consistent to their current Saturday morning program's feel and any possible names the show may have.

"I'm not sure, but as of right now I'm pretty sure we're just running with "Cipha Sounds and Rosenberg." We're not gonna be called 'The Big Wacky Morning Show'. We're just gonna keep it moving like we have been. Different time slot and more frequent, but it's going to be a similar vibe."

Promising more guests are likely to appear on the show compared to the duo's weekend program, Rosenberg also gave the scoop on how he found out about receiving the new gig.

"We didn't really know ahead of time," he said. "I got congratulatory e-mails from people at the station and then I showed up and everyone was giving me a thumbs up. Obviously we've been doing the show for a long time so we've always hoped that we would do more--and before we knew it, that was it."

News: Nas Teams W/ Fila For New 80s Style Clothing Line

nas-2008-02-15-300x300.jpg

By Cyrus Langhorne

Multi-platinum selling rapper Nas has signed a one-year deal with sportswear company Fila that will feature the emcee in their products and co-creating a clothing line resembling the late 80's fashions.

According to Billboard, the partnership will benefit both parties. Nas will receive financial support with his print and television advertisement campaigns and upcoming tour, while vast numbers of fans will see Fila worn by the highly respected Queens, New York rapper.

Despite refusing commercial deals in the past, Nas' decision to accept this one comes from admiration he has had for the company since his days with slain friend Ill Will.

"My best friend Will and I loved Fila," Nas revealed. "It represented prestige and everything that was cool to us. When Will passed, we buried him in a black Fila sweat suit, so doing a deal with them has a lot of significance for me."

Showing support for the power move, Fila president John Epstein respectfully acknowledged the perception of rappers selling out when doing commercial deals and how Fila shares the same goals as Nas.

"One of my executives spotted Nas shopping in our Manhattan store and struck up a conversation with him," Epstein said. "Nas isn't interested in selling out. He's interested in being true, and that fits with our brand."

Nas' untitled Def Jam release is scheduled to come out July 15th.

ATL Blog: Poppin Or Floppin' Video Of The Week: T.I. "No Matter What"

Yes we were down but can’t nothing hold us back. Slowly we will be getting back to the number one position. But in the meantime let’s talk T.I.—a man who knows a thing or two about bouncing back from adversity.

Photobucket

His new video dropped for “No Matter What” and I’ve selected it for this week’s poppin’ or floppin’ video. Check it out below.

I’m not going to lie, I really don’t know how I feel about this. I mean it’s kind of boring if you ask me. I mean they could’ve used so many flashback sequences of the all the hoopla of his trial with the insane media coverage and everything.

They could’ve thrown Gyant in the video when he said “to let the blog sites and magazines tell it….[LOL]” There were SOHH many creative angles that could’ve been taken, but I digress.

It’s still good to see the “King” doing his thing. But what do you guys think?

Oh and here’s a rumored leak off the new album Paper Trail titled “Louis Rag”

I didn’t even bother to listen to it. I am SOHH over the swag movement.

Oh and before I forget …….

Big Kuntry is gearing up for the release of his new album. And here’s a sneak peek off his new video with Trey Songz. Check it out.

Shout out to Terrence “Snake” Hawkins.

Ya Heard Blog: Amy Don't Fux With Kanye, Ricky Ross Denies Engagement To Foxy Brown! Plus, Faith Evans Is SOHH HOOD!!

Oh how I have missed my blogging buddies and haterz alike. As you know we got hit hard by a certain group who will never be mentioned on this site again, and as a result I haven’t been able to blog – and the most important part gossip – with you guys. SOHH lets get into it.

Photobucket

Apparently Amy hasn’t been spending all her time snorting the blow because at a recent performance she took some time out to aim a zinger at Kanye West. Apparently she thinks of the Midwest MC as nothing more than a c*ck. I am not sure if that’s an insult or not, the jury is still out on that one.

Last week I talked to you all about Foxy Brown and Rick Ross’ alleged nuptials. However, it seems like those rumors are just that…..rumors. I hear Ricky made it perfectly clear that the only thing he’s married to is his money. It seems the “credible” hip-hop rag Hip-Hop Weekly tried to drum up some buzz for their mag by running with the story.

Photobucket

I hear that Foxy Brown is seeking legal counsel and could possibly be looking to sue.

I bet you ten bucks that the “engagement” story was an undercover leak where both parties could mutually benefit. Foxy, we ain’t dumb girl.

My girl Myra Panache just put me on to some beat down information compliments of a new tell all book about Christopher “Biggie Smalls” Wallace.

Photobucket

Did y’all know that his wife at the time Faith Evans would beat b*tches down when she would catch them up on her man? Check this out:

Biggie once called from the road and Faith heard a girl in the background. Faith got a babysitter and caught the next plane out. She went straight to the hotel room and knocked. A female asked, who is it? The girl cracked the door open and Faith kicked her way in the room and beat the shit out of the girl. She punched the girl over 30 times in the face.

Damn. I mean I can’t say that I’m surprised, but still….Damn!

Soulful Blog: Miss Jones Tsunami'd By Hot 97, JC Swagger Jacking Lloyd? R. Kelly "A Milli" Freestyle

Hot 97 morning show hostess Miss Jones has been given the boot. Known for chastising some of your fave r&b stars like Keyshia Cole and Danity Kane, and more infamous for her culturally insensitive remarks (“Tsunami” song anyone?) the popular New York station has finally opted to cut the washed-up singer from their roster. From what I hear Big Boy will be making the leap from LA’s Power 106 to take over the reins from Jonesy.

If you’re into old school R&B you probably remember her work. [Peep This]

I got the following video via email today and I’m glad I did because I love this song but I thought it was Lloyd singing until I got the video.

JC ft. Gorilla Zoe “Nobody Gotta Know”

Anybody else think homie sounds like Lloyd? On another note, it’s good to see folks getting creative with the videos again. The notes on this one say it’s themed after the newest Bond Casino Royale film. What do you think about this one?

6/27 - Kanye West’s Mother’s Surgeon No Longer Allowed To Practice Medicine

kanye-west-2008-05-13-300x300.jpg

By Cyrus Langhorne

Dr. Jan Adams
, the man responsible for operating on Kanye West's mother's surgery last fall, which ultimately led to her passing, has lost his California medical license due to late child support payments.

According to TMZ, Adams was notified in a letter from the California Department of Consumer Affairs on May 21st which said he had 30 days to pay his child support to prevent from losing his license to practice. Failing to do so resulted in him losing his right to legally operate in the state. A rep from the Medical Board released a statement yesterday confirming the loss.

"As of midnight last night, he is not allowed to practice medicine in California," it read.

Responsible for the failed cosmetic surgery on Donda West last November, Adams has a history of malpractice allegations including a DUI in 2006. Medical Board Executive David Thornton claims Adams has "multiple convictions for alcohol-related offenses," and requested that his license be revoked or suspended.

However, a settlement was reached concerning the disciplinary actions that would be enforced by the medical board. It was still under review when Donda received her last operation by Adams.

Despite losing his license in California, he may still be re-instated once all payments are addressed.

"Someone toldme yesterday that someone else had a piece of the New York Yankees, 'We wannatalk to you, yadda yadda yadda.' Jadakiss, Styles P. and Sheek Louch have gathered together their D-Block brethren for an official album set to drop in August.

Along with The LOX, the disc, entitled Prepare for Glory, will showcase the talents of D-Block artists Trav, Straws, A.P., T.Y., Bucky, Bully, Don D. and Large Amount.

Former D-Block standout J-Hood will not be featured on the CD.

50 Cent -- who'shad a very public rivalry with D-Block, exchanging insults with the group on wax, even when J-Hood was a part of the click -- brought the former D-Block member on stage with him for a surprise appearance at a Bronx concert last year while the diss track "FuckD-Block" played.

Damon Dash Talks $4 Bil Fashion Deal, “She’s Gonna Be As Big As Ralph Lauren”

damon-dash-2008-04-30-300x300.jpg

By Cyrus Langhorne

About a week since announcing a new clothing business venture with his wife Rachel Roy, Roc-A-Fella Records founder Damon Dash has clarified what the deal's value is and how his wife is capable of becoming the female Calvin Klein.

In a recent interview with Peace Magazine, Dame opened up and cleared the confusion of whether the deal with Jones Apparel Group was worth $4 billion and explained his impressions of working with a large company.

"The company is a $4 billion dollar company--I guess we have the potential to make that kind of money. I just never been with a company that big," he said. "Being that it's so outside the scope of what you think an urban individual would do, I'm real proud of that. I didn't just do a deal with a company that's exploiting my culture, I did something that took some respect and some very risky hustling--doing something that doesn't usually happen."

Comparing his wife's deal to when he sold Rocawear clothing to his previous partners including rapper Jay-Z, Norton Cher, and Alex Bize, Dash laughingly confirmed there was no comparison.

"Come on, man. I said $4 billion. Norton was $4 dollars," he joking said. "This is high fashion and volume. This is like elven and minch, you know what I'm saying. It's a class level--they make high-end luxury goods at an affordable price point and they do a lot of it consistency for a long period of time. I don't think they sell their company, they buy'em."

Dash also commented on the limitless possibilities Roy will encounter as she begins to compete against popular lifestyle brand names and name a few high-profile entrepreneurs she will be compared to.

"She has a line it's just gonna be a lot of different lines. It's limitless to what can be done, you don't even know. It means she's gonna be as big as Donna Karen, and big as Ralph Lauren, and big as Calvin Klein. It's that kind of situation."

Speaking briefly on his deal with Pro-Keds, Dame said he has considered selling back his original agreement with the brand.

"I think I'm gonna try to sell stride ride the license back. I don't own it, you know. I would license the brand. It makes no sense to license a brand you don't own."

News: Soulja Boy Responds To Ice-T Diss, "You Should Be Ashamed Of Yourself"

soulja-boy-2008-03-21-300x300.jpg

By: Cyrus Langhorne

Replaying the audio from the late 80's rapper, Ice-T is heard saying "F*ck Soulja Boy. Eat a d*ck. This n*gga single handedly killed hip-hop." He also goes on to call the 17 year-old's music "garbage" and refers to him as "young enough to be my kid."

After the statements are made, Soulja Boy strikes back by looking up his Ice T's Wikipedia biography and making various references to his age and contradictory decisions he has made within his career.

"This n*gga Ice-T old as f*ck! This n*gga old enough to be my great grandfather. I Wikipedia'ed this n*gga, he was born in 1958. [He] claims he's from the West Coast, n*gga you were born in New Jersey, dawg," he laughingly said via his webcam. "Who is Ice-T, dawg? How you gonna make a song called ["Cop Killer"], and 35 years later your a** playing the police on tv, 'Law and Order'. This ain't no beef."

Continuing with the age references, Soulja Boy laughed at the possibility of fighting the rapper/actor and jokingly told him to fight his grandfather.

"You hit me, your f*cking arm gon' break. I'll let you fight my granddad dawg, the n*gga will knock you're a** out. You were born before the Internet was created--how the f*ck did you even find me? You [about] to drop an album, that's why you mentioned my name. "Superman" was last year, n*gga--get with the times you old a** n*gga."

Acknowledging Ice-T's contributions to the music industry, Soulja Boy explained his motivation for making a response and how the industry is not what it used to be during the early 90's.

"I swear, I respect everybody who started this--who opened the doors for young artists like me to get in to the hip-hop and music industry," he said. "I know Ice-T is a legend in the game and he's a veteran and all that, but n*gga once you tell me 'Eat a d*ck', and I hear that on the radio in my city--the reality behind it is that the game has changed. There's new and young n*ggas out and eating and nobody wanna hear that old sh*t no more."

Rather than adding more insult to injury, he decided to become more serious by questioning Ice-T's motivation behind his statements and asking him why he couldn't appreciate his situation coming from a poor background.

"The point we tryin' to get across is that you was wrong for that, man. Think about it in my shoes, man. This time last year dawg, I was poor as f*ck [living] in the hood, in the ghetto. If what you living is true, you would understand where I'm coming from. N*gga, I wasn't born rich. I worked to get this. I'm 17 years-old dawg, I worked hard for this sh*t."

SOHH Exclusive: 50 Cent Must “Refrain From Any Acts Or Threats Of Violence,” Says Baby Mama’s Lawyer

50-cent-2008-04-18-300x300.jpg
By Cyrus Langhorne

Things are continuing to heat up between 50 Cent and his ex, Shaniqua Tompkins, as she has just received a temporary restraining order against the rapper.

According to TMZ, Tompkins’ motivation for seeking the order is based on alleged threats made against her from associates of the G-Unit head. With the request approved, 50 will not only be restricted from direct contact with Tompkins, but also from his 11 year-old son who he has yet to speak with since a fire destroyed their Long Island home.

Minutes after the decision was made, Tompkin’s lawyer Paul Catsadonis spoke exclusively with SOHH to clarify what the order means.

“Basically [50 Cent] can’t be around Ms. Tompkins, wherever she is, without being court authorized and he has to refrain from any acts or threats of physical violence that create an unreasonable risk to the health, safety, or welfare of Ms. Tompkins,” he said. “[50] has to surrender, immediately, any known guns to the police and sheriff.”

Catsadonis also detailed what the order means for the rapper’s relationship with his son, Marquise.

“He can have contact with Marquise so long as he makes an effort to do that, [providing] a number [to call him]. If he’s gonna come over, he’s got to be court authorized.”

From here, Catsadonis said they would be returning to court the week of July 15th to discuss the restraining order, including property issues for what 50 Cent cannot legally do and the 17th for family court.

The decision marks the latest action from either side as SOHH previously reported 50 suing Tompkins for defamation. In the suit, the rapper claims she has been fueling fire to allegations that he deliberately had the Long Island home burned down, purposely endangering the lives of both his son and former girlfriend.

Catsadonis said he has just received the defamation information and plans on letting SOHH how he plans on responding to the suit.

“There comes a point where you can no longer sit on your hands and listen to her spread these falsehoods,” 50’s lawyer, Brett Kimmel, told SOHH. “Besides hurting his reputation, they have a damaging impact on their son.”

Tompkin’s lawyer also said they are looking to disqualify Kimmel from the New York Supreme Court matter. He also has argued that she is devastated from the destruction of the Long Island home.

“Her position is very clear—[50] has been an absentee father and they’re traumatized right now. They lost everything they had.”

The battle between the two began prior to the home’s destruction, as 50 went to court requesting the family to be forced out of the million-dollar house last April.

News: Spike Lee Travels Back In Time To Tell Lost Story

spike-lee-2008-06-30-300x300.jpg

By Brandi Hopper

Spike Lee will bring the story of one of the nation's first African-Americans to earn PhD in theoretical physics.

Spike will co-write and direct the flick Time Traveler, a feature adaptation of a memoir by the trailblazer Ronald Mallet, according to Variety.

It's a project close to Spike's heart. He acquired Time Traveler: A Scientist's Personal Mission to Make Time Travel a Reality with his own cash and set up the project through his own Forty Acres & A Mule Filmworks imprint.

The book takes readers through Mallett's rise from poverty to a history-making career in academia and science. Since his father died when he was 10 years old, Mallett's life ambition had been to invent a time machine enabling him to go back and save his father.

The Compton California native will drop L.A.X., his third studio album at the end of July. As SOHH previously reported L.A.X. was originally slated for a June 24th release which would've pit the Game against his rival G-Unit's T.O.S. (Terminate On Site). On the R&B tip, Ne-Yo appears on both "Camera Phone," another Cool & Dre production, as well as J.R. Rotem's "A Thug and a Gentleman." "Let Us Live" with R&B songbird Chrissette Michelle and "Put Ya Hands Up" with Busta Rhymes were both produced by Scott Storch.

New Orleans, Louisiana rapper Lil' Wayne is preparing to set an even greater achievement as Tha Carter III is expected to possibly close at one million records.

Setting a first -day sales record with 423,000 albums sold, Wayne is on track to take this year's first week sales record.

According to Variety, Universal Motown's president Sylvia Rhode believes there is a strong chance of the album being the only release following 50 Cent's 2005 project, The Massacre,
to sell at least a million in its opening week. She credits this probability to Weezy's ever-growing fanbase and the rapper's constant guest appearances.

"Over the last three years, Lil' Wayne has addressed his fanbase through tours of clubs and arenas, going into markets three and four times, appeared on other artists' records and made plenty of mix tapes," she said. "He nurtured the fanbase, and it grew. Go to [his] show and you see an audience that is 50 percent white and 50 percent white and mostly male. I think this record will start to increase the female audience."

In addition to physical sales, Wayne is also expected to set records on digital services like iTunes, ringtones, and MySpace plays, which totaled 130 million last Friday alone.

As previously reported by SOHH, the self-proclaimed "Greatest Rapper Alive" is in line to out-sell both Mariah Carey and Usher's latest albums total first week sales combined. Carey's EMC2 and Usher's Here I Stand sold 463,000 and 433,000 respectively.

The Massacre
is the last album to have reached the one million mark in a week's time span. Released in March 2005, it sold approximately 1.14 million copies in only four days.

News: "Kanye sucks!" Fans Scream After Rapper Shows Up Late For Concert

Angry, tired fans who had to wait into the wee hours of morning for Kanye West to finally take the stage at the Bonnaroo festival in Tennessee jeered him for his two-hour late appearance yesterday (June 15).

Armed with glow sticks, the mob booed the rapper, chanted "Kanye sucks" and pelted the glow-in-the-dark spears at the empty stage, while others just returned to their sleeping bags, giving up on Ye, according to BBC News.

Problems taking down the set for Pearl Jam, who'd gone on right before and played an hour late, plus difficulty getting up Ye's glow-in-the-dark backdrop - so his space ship could crash land on stage -- were blamed for the delay.Over 150 eclectic acts performed at the four-day festival, including comedian Chris Rock.

Later on Sunday, pedal steel guitarist Robert Randolph criticized West on stage for slighting his fans, egging on more "Kanye sucks" chants from the crowd.

News: Plies On Track To Sell 250K In First Week, Surprises Fans In Home State

By Cyrus Langhorne

While not expected to compete with Lil' Wayne's first
week sales, Fort Myers, Florida rapper Plies looks to sell between
150,000 and 250,000 in his opening week with his sophomore release Definition
of Real
.

According to Fort Myers News Press, executives from Atlantic Records analyzed last Tuesday's sales and are banking on his follow-up to Testament, which sold 90,000 in its first week, easily outselling.

"This is a big day for hip-hop," Atlantic's National Urban Sales Director James Rhode said.

Making a special surprise visit to his hometown's Best Buy on the release of his album, the southern rapper was greeted with super star status as close to 500 fans waited hours before meeting Plies.

"The city of Fort Myers has an amazing spirit each time I come home," he said.

Opting out of releasing his album in heavily marketed cities like New York and Los Angeles, Plies received support from Atlantic Records officials as he has continued to support his home state.

"Hometown releases have become a tradition in hip-hop," Warner Music Group market leader Paul Giovanis said.

Despite carrying parental guidance warnings on his past two albums, Plies' fan base proved to be very young as a 14 year-old Fort Myer resident claimed to have supported the rapper since his first mixtape three years ago and waited nearly seven hours.

"I didn't want to have to wait in line behind anybody," she said.

News: Wendy Williams’ Husband Accused of Hatching Murder Plot

Writer: Brandi Hopper

A lawsuit filed Wednesday accuses shock jock Wendy Williams’ husband of plotting to kill his wife’s rival.

Kevin Hunter allegedly tried to enlist the help of a male WBLS employee, the station where Wendy works, to help him find a hit man to take out radio personality Miss Jones, according to New York’s Daily News.

Hunter "was apparently angry over some comments that Miss Jones made about his wife on the air," the lawsuit filed in Manhattan Federal Court claims.

Wendy and Hunter are currently under fire as Hunter is accused of sexually harassing a 29-year-old talent booker for "The Wendy Williams Experience" on WBLS, Nicole Spence, while Wendy allegedly egged it on.

As SOHH previously reported, the suit says Hunter, who does not work for the radio station, regularly called Spence a "whore," referred to her with the B-word and called her cell phone to tell "her that he had been dreaming about sleeping with her."

Williams has publicly refuted those claims. Her lawyer did not return calls for comment on the newest allegation.
